A Comparison Between a Rural Area and a Suburb	3 - 5	Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.5, Social Sts: Standard 6.7	The students will see that there can be likes and differences no matter where a person lives. They will also be able to see how E-mail can be a useful tool to gather information.

Alphabet Book	K - 4	Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.1 Career/Consumer Standards 9.1	Students will make an “Alphabet Book” using a word processor.

A Webquest Comparing Japan, Russia, and Mexico	3 -6	Social Studies Standard 6.7 Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.3	Students will complete a web quest activity, using technology and research skills to discover facts about Japan, Mexico, and Russia.

Animals	3 - 4	Language Arts Literacy: Standard3.2: Science: Standard 5.5:	Students research an animal they would like to learn more about. Then they will write a paragraph and include a picture

Air Pressure	3 - 5	Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.2 Science: STANDARD 5.1	The lesson will introduce and give the student an idea about air pressure and its existence.

Bats	3 - 5	Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.2 & Science: Standard 5.5	Students will work in cooperative groups to search for information on bats. Then present the information they gathered.

Beware Shark	3 - 5	Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.3 & Science: Standard 5.5	Using computer resources students will write and illustrate a paragraph a marine animal.

Characterization Disney	4-5	Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.2	Teaching characterization using Disney and his characters is an excellent way to captivate your students. This lesson is a fun way to teach characterization. Students will "put away worn out words".

Come to My Colony	8 - 12	Language Arts: 3.2 Social Studies: 6.4 & 6.6 Technology: 8.1	Students will create “brochures” advertising various parts of colonial America to encourage people to move there.

Communities	2 - 4	Social Studies: 6.7 Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.2	The students compare and contrast the urban, suburban and rural communities and draw each type of community and write about a visit to one of the communities.

Dinosaurs/Paleontologists	K - 3	Language Arts 3.4 Science 5.1 Career/Consumer 9.1	Students will recognize the role and basic job tasks of paleontologists as part of ongoing study of dinosaurs.

Dramatic Presentation Of Animal Fables	3-4	Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.1:	After reading the fable " The Ant and the Grasshopper", children will work in groups to put dialogue to the fable and then they will present the dramatic story to the rest of the class.

Enjoying Writing	3-8	Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.2	Each student will save their writing samples to a diskette that will be provided to them by the school. The diskettes will follow each student from fourth to eighth grade.

Eyewitness Account in Egypt	4 - 6	Language Arts 3.2, 3.3 Social Studies 6.2	Students will write an eyewitness account using the 5 w’s and sensory details involving Egyptian artifacts

Floating Bottle Note	2 - 8	Language Arts 3.2	Students will write creative story about a note found in a bottle.

Graphing Apples	3 - 4	Mathematics 4.4	Students will taste, rate and graph different apples, as a class, individually and in groups

Heroes of the Columbia	3-6	Career/Consumer 9.1 Lang Arts3.1 & 3.2	Students will search the web for information on the seven Columbia Space Shuttle astronauts who perished in on Feb. 1, 2003.

I'm Not Bad, I'm Just Written That Way	3 - 5	Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.2& 3.4 Science Standard 5.5	Students learn that animals are predators because they have to survive and that this doesn't make them "bad". They discuss how many of our perceptions about predators are based on myths.

Idiomatic Expressions	5-7	Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.1	Students are exposed to various types of figurative language and are expected to interpret this style language.

In the Haunted House	3 - 4	Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.2	This is a fun activity that allows the students to become fully involved while listening to a story. As the story is "acted out", the students respond to questions about characters, plot, and setting. The story is then used as a writing prompt.

I Remember	3 - 9	Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.1 & 3.2 Social Studies: Standard 6.3	This mini-unit on the Holocaust provides students with the opportunity to relate to a child that experienced the horror of the Holocaust. The activities allow the students to bond with a child and understand some children's thoughts and feelings as they experienced life in a concentration camp.

Oregon Trail	5 - 7	Career/Consumer 9.1 Social Studies: Standard 6.3 & 6.7	Students will gather information from "Covered Wagon" by Scholastic Books. Students will find information from Internet Oregon Trail links. Students will gather supplies to take on a 4 mile trek to be carried in a replica of a Mormon handcart.

Reading/Predicting	4-6	Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.2	This lesson is a great way to "hook" your students into writing a prediction about a new unit. It helps students use prior knowledge and their critical thinking skills to draw conclusions.

Reading Olympics	4-6	Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.4	This lesson will encourage students to read for enjoyment. The students will compete against other teams to see how many pages they can read in 3 weeks.

Rock Hound	3 - 6	Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.2 Science: Standard 5.8	Students learn about Earth Science and discuss the definition of a rock, later developing the concept of how rocks form and are changed in the rock cycle. After viewing the Power Point presentation the students can log onto the Mount Rushmore web site and apply their understanding of rocks.

Using Customary Units To Measure Length	2-5	Mathematics: STANDARD 4.1 Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.1:	The students will read How Big is a Foot?. Then, they will have the opportunity to measure using their own form of measurement and make comparisons when they use customary units. In the next two lessons, they will use their knowledge of customary units to estimate, measure and compare their heights.

Vacation Diary!!!	4 - 7	Subject: Science (Adopted July 2, 2002) Standard 5.1 Social Studies Standard 6.7	Students choose a country and use a variety of resources to gather information. Using this information, students will create a diary/photo album of an imaginary trip.

Washington, D.C.	3 -4	Social Sts: Standard 6.1 & 6.3 Language Arts Literacy: Standard 3.3	The students will research a location of interest in Washington, D.C. in the course of studying the capital city.

Weather Reporting	2-5	Science: Standard 5.1 Career/Consumer 9.1 Social Studies: 6.7	Using and internet website, students will be asked to randomly select a capital city in the U.S. and complete a 5 day forecast for that city. Students will then present their weather forecast as a TV weather reporter
